The article is devoted to the leadership of the head of an educational institution through the prism of spiral dynamics theory. Analyzed the evolution of the phenomenon of leadership over the last hundred years from personally oriented to a process oriented. From focus on positions in the organization, the role of leader, his qualities, traits, competencies, behavior to understanding leadership as the interaction between leader and followers that appears in the process of joint activities, as a new paradigm of management based on authority and influence. The author explores the essence of the theory of spiral dynamics. The key to understanding theory is the evolution of personalities values systems and paradigms of thinking. It is noted that the theory allows to determine the structure of beliefs, way of thinking, the main motives and background of leadership. The author made conclusion about anatomy and culture of leadership, characterizes the personality of the leader in accordance to a paradigm of thinking. Leader need to have strategic and global thinking, a high level of emotional intelligence, the ability to build a strategy and communication in educational institutions, to use in relations with followers facilitation and coaching tools.
