DEVELOPMENT OF TEACHERS’ LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES IN THE SYSTEM OF ADVANCED TRAINING (BASED ON THE EXPERIENCE OF BORYS GRINCHENKO KYIV UNIVERSITY)

Abstract

Nowadays education requires transformation of the position of teacher as “a broadcaster of knowledge” to such as a partner who shares responsibility for studying with students and focuses on their autonomy. This requires a teacher’s “personal adjustment” and especially forming a leadership position through disclosing leadership potential and development of leadership competencies.

Leadership potential is defined as a personal self-realization in the implementation of activities which is being realized through the process of opening, actualization and realization. The key leadership competencies of teachers of higher education institutions are: result-orientation, analytical thinking, human resources management and effective communication. Leadership position is a stable personality formation and shows itself externally in the leadership behavior and activities, and internally is determined by system of attitudes, goals and values, and reflects the nature of personal needs, motives and beliefs. Manifestation of leadership position by teachers’ will provide leadership in education as one of the three aspects of the "educational leadership" which will facilitate the development of education in general in conditions of contemporary social transformations.

It is advisable to implement the development of leadership competencies through the training of teaching and scientific staff of higher education institutions. The module "Leadership" which was implemented and tested in Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University showed the relevance of advanced training of teaching and scientific staff on social and psychological topics, the positive perception of the new educational formats, and some teachers’s readiness for recognition of the needs in their activities.
